Want to Live on a Golf Course? Every Golf Community in the Western Suburbs

June 23, 20265 min read

Always wanted your backyard to be the fairway? Good news. The western suburbs of Chicago have several neighborhoods where you can live right on a golf course. Here is every golf course community in our area, from Naperville to Plainfield, including 55 and older options and the public courses you can drive to. A quick note: the prices below are approximate and move with the market, so reach out for exact current numbers.

Naperville: Cress Creek, White Eagle, and Tamarack

Naperville is the golf capital of our area, with three communities open to buyers of all ages.

Cress Creek is the original, built around the 18 hole Cress Creek Country Club on the north side of town. It was the first residential golf course community in the Chicago area. You will find everything from condos to large single family homes, roughly from the $200s to over $1 million, all close to downtown.

White Eagle is the luxury option in south Naperville, with about 1,085 homes around a 27 hole course designed by Arnold Palmer. Many homes have fairway views, and there are condos right on the course at the Golf Villas. Prices generally run from the upper $500s for villas and townhomes to well over $1 million for the larger homes. It sits in Indian Prairie District 204. Learn more at White Eagle Golf Club.

Tamarack Fairways offers larger lots and a quieter feel around the Tamarack Golf Club, out on the Naperville and Oswego edge. Homes here are often custom and tend to start in the $500s.

Aurora: Stonebridge

Stonebridge is Aurora's premier golf community. This gated neighborhood is built around an 18 hole championship course designed by Tom Fazio that opened in 1989. You get a mix of townhomes, often in the $300s and $400s, and single family homes that range from the $500s into the $900s, plus a pool and tennis. It sits near Eola Road in District 204. See more at Stonebridge Country Club.

Plainfield: The Wedgewood Area

In Plainfield, the McKenna Woods neighborhood backs right up to the 18 hole Wedgewood Golf Course, with single family homes generally in the $400s and up. You can also find homes near the public Naperbrook Golf Course in unincorporated Plainfield.

Golf Communities for Ages 55 and Up

Here is an important note. The communities in this section are age restricted, active adult communities. To live here, at least one resident must be 55 or older, and they are not open to younger buyers. If you are not 55 yet, keep these in your back pocket for later.

Carillon in Plainfield is the big one. It was the Chicago area's first 55 and older active adult community, opened in 1989, and it is gated with its own golf. It has nearly 2,000 homes, including condos, coach homes, townhomes, and ranch single family homes, roughly from the low $200s to the $400s.

Carillon Club in Naperville is a 55 and older gated community at Route 59 and 95th Street, with golf and a large clubhouse. It is mostly single family ranch homes, generally in the $300s to $600s.

Lincoln Prairie by Del Webb in Aurora is a Del Webb 55 and older community with golf and resort style amenities, generally in the $400s to $600s.

Courses You Can Play, But Not Live On

Not every course has homes around it. These are public courses with no neighborhood built on them, but they are a short drive for anyone in our towns, so great golf is close even if you do not live on a fairway:

What to Know Before You Buy on a Course

Living on a course is a treat, but go in with eyes open. Think about which homes are least likely to catch a stray golf ball, whether the HOA has rules about your view or yard, and whether joining the golf club is required or optional. In most of these communities, club membership is a choice, not a must. We point all of this out so you pick the right lot, not just a pretty one.

How We Help You Find the Right Fairway Home

Golf course homes do not come up every day, so timing matters. We can set you up on Zenlist to get an alert the moment one hits the market in your favorite community.
